EMPIRE AIR FORCES

END OF TRAINING SCHEME GREAT RESULTS ACHIEVED (Received Sept. 22, 11.30 a.m.) OTTAWA, Sept. 21

The Canadian Press, foreshadowing the end of the Empire’s vast air training scheme, says that the Canadian Air Force has officially announced the amalgamation of the four training commands in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Calgary.

There were only 169 first-class graduates in the Commonwealth air training plans in the first year. La lor air schools sprang up all over Canada until 154 were operating, compared with the 74 originally estimated. At the end of 1943 10,000 training planes averaged 2,000,000 flying miles daily, producing 50,000 air crew graduates, sufficient to man 15,000 combat aircraft.
