HARD PEACE CONDITIONS
LESSON FOR GERMAN PEOPLE COMPENSATION FOR VICTIMS (Received Sept. 22, 1 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 Mr Cordell Hull, at a Press Conference, when asked to comment on the Polish proposal warning Germany that if European areas are scorched the Germans will be forced to give up fuel and clothing for the victims, said the Germans have already been told that many of them will be shot for taking lives, therefore it was appropriate to make such warnings relating to property. Replying to other questions Mr Hull said that the United Nations will be ready to meet the chaos of civil war and almost any possible conditions when Germany collapses, but the Allied plans for the military control of Germany are not yet complete. The American Press said there is a firm conviction in official quarters in Washington that the peace given Germany will be a hard peace, designed to teach the German people the lesson of the consequences of their aggression.
