REDUCTION OF FORTRESS

GOOD WORK BY TYPHOONS (Received Sept. 22, 1 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 21. Probably the first attempt at the reduction of a fortress now converted into a German strongpoint by rocketfiring Typhoons was made last night, when Typhons fired 64 rockets into the first German stronghold in Antwerp. The target was two long buildings in the centuries-old fortress walls, within which is a pocket of from 1000 to 2000 Germans who have been resisting stubbornly. The Typhoon wing this week operated from an airfield within range of ef.emy artillery less than three hours after leaving the French airfield from which it had been operating over 100 miles away. Its attack on the Antwerp fortress was a close-support job called for by the army.
