IN AIRBORNE INVASION

PILOTS FROM NEW ZEALAND LONDON. Sept. 19 New Zealand pilots flying Tempest fighters were in the vanguard of the airborne invasion of Holland but they had a quiet time the first day. They flew to Holland in advance of the glider and parachute troops and then turned to meet the invasion air fleet and flew along the full length of the glider stream which, in the words of Squadron-Leader J. H. Iremonger, an Englishman who commands a New Zealand squadron, was a fantastic sight.

“As far as we were concerned it was a quiet trip,” he said. “Only two guns fired at us, even when we went down to shoot up a railway station and other targets.”
