ADVANCE OF ALLIES

FRONTIER CROSSED AGAIN THIRD BRIDGEHEAD WON (Received Sept. 19, 2 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 18 The British have established a third bridgehead across the Escaut Canal, due north of Lommel. The counter-attacks against the Gheel bridgehead have ceased and our troops have lost touch with the enemy north of the bridgehead. The American First Army made another crossing of the German frontier east of Simpleveld, seven miles north of Aachen.

Other First Army troops, advancing north-east of Maastricht, are within two miles of Sittard, four miles from the German frontier. The Americans also made small advances east of St. Olberg against heavy opposition.
