Week-End Rain Most of the rainfall totalling one inch which fell at the week-end was experienced during last night. Saturday’s weather was always threatening, with light rain and a strong south-westerly wind. Sunday was fine until mid-afternoon, when rain began was to continue steadily in the evening and during the night. This morning was fine but dull. Injury to Eye Injuries to the left eye were suffered by a young girl, Margaret Alma Brieskie, sged 10, daughter of Mr L Brieskie, of Matamata, when she was playing with a knife at her home, the blade snapping off and flying into her face. She was admitted to the Waikato Hospital yesterday afternoon. Army Benevolent Fund An Army benevolent fund has been created in Britain under the patronage of the King. The object is to assist to the fullest extent its resources in the provision of financial support for service and ex-ser-vicemen and women of the British Army who may be in need of it. The fund has already received generous contributions from a number of sources. Three women Injured Injuries were received by three women who were travelling in a car at Kohimarama, Auckland, on Sunday afternoon when the car became out of control and collided with a power pole. They were Mrs Elsa Kusabs, aged 31, of Auckland, who received a fractured shoulder; Miss Nola Edginton, of Auckland, and Miss Joyce Street, aged 25, of the staff of the Hamilton Technical High School. Miss Edginton and Miss Street received lacerations. The latter has left for her home at Otunui, near Taumarunui.
