FATAL ACCIDENT
COLLISION WITH ARMY TRUCK AUCKLAND, Monday. When the motor-car in which they were t riding collided with a heavy American Army truck in Remuera last night, a young woman was killed and another seriously injured. The woman killed was: Miss Norma Rule, daughter of Mrs J. M. Walworth, 9 Meadowbank Road, Remuera. The other occupant of the car, Miss Valerie Steedman, aged 23, doctor’s nurse, of 21 Burwood Crescent, Remuera, suffered concussion, a possible fracture of the skull and fractured ribs. She was taken to the Auckland Hospital and her condition early this morning was fairly serious. The force of the impact crushed the car to a heap of tangled wreckage. The bonnet was lifted high in the air and the whole engine was pushed out of alignment. Beyond slight dents in one mudguard the truck was not damaged. A few of the soldiers suffered slight bruises to the legs and arms.
