KING HAAKON’S DECLARATION RUGBY, May 17 King Haakon in a broadcast to Norway today, Norwegian Independence Day, said: “Norway at this moment is facing the final battle between oppression and freedom In this fight which is taking place all over the worl it is for every individual to give his utmost to secure the speediest final victory. “All our thoughts go back to all those who have given everything, even their lives, for Norway in the fight for our liberty and independ-
ence and against being incorporated in the German community, with Norway as a link in a Europe governed from Germany and in which Norway’s role would be that of a slave State doomed to work for the German State. Their sacrifices bind all Norwegians together.”
