j TONIGHT'S PROGRAMMES CIVIC THEATRE J “Thunderbirds,” besides being an apj pealing romantic drama, gives interesting : glimpses of the training of young airmen, i and also contains thrilling scenes in .the ‘ air. The spectacular effect is hightened | by the fact that the film is in technii colour. Preston Foster. Gene Tierney • (looking very lovely in technicolour) and • John Sutton are the principals in a threei cornered romance that holds the close interest of the audience throughout. Some entertaining "shorts" complete the programme. REGENT THEATRE “Star-spangled Rhythm” is a sparkling and spectacular production, with plenty of tuneful songs and merry comedy. The cast is unusually impressive, including Bing Crosby. Bob Hope, Ray Milland. IFred Mac Murray, Paulette Goddard, Vera j Zorina, Veronica Lake, Franchot Tone, I Dorothy Lamcur, Victor Moore, Mary Martin, Dick Powell, Alan Ladd. Rochester and Walter Abel. There are some interesting supporting films. STATE THEATRE Plenty of romance and adventure are provided in the new programme. "Border Patrol" brings back the popular Hopalong Cassidy in another thrilling story, filled with action in the great outdoors. William Bbyd again fills the role of Hopalong successfully, and is supported by an excellent cast. "The Kansan” is another exciting drama, with Ricnard Dix and Jane Wyatt in the romantic leads. THEATRE ROYAL "Sherlock Holmes Faces Death,” a thrilling drama, and Two S-roritas from Chicago,” an amusing comedy, will be screened tonight. Tomorrow night there will be an outstanding attraction, for that j appealing romantic drama, "Smilin’ Through," featuring Jeanette MacDonald. Brian Ahernc and Gene Raymond, will be revived. On the stage George Wilson, a gifted Scottish tenor, will be heard in a i.umber of ballads and operatic arias. ROXY THEATRE “The Goose Steps Out,” an exciting and amusing comedy with Will Hays heading the cast, and “A Man’s World,” with William Wright and Ljarry Parks, will be screened tor the last time tonight. Tomorrow “The Big Blockade” with an allstar cast headed by Leslie Banks and Frank Collier, will head the new programme. "The Old Homestead.” a sparkling musical comedy, will also be screened.
