WICKET RUINED

AUCKLAND DOMAIN INCIDENT

AUCKLAND, Tuesday.

The discovery was made at the Auckland Domain Cricket Ground on Sunday morning that a wicket, which had been specially prenared for the match between the Auckland City and Suburban representatives and Waikato, had been ruined. No play was possible on Saturday because of the weather, and yesterday morning a start was made on another wicket, which had to be hurriedly prepared. The damaged wicket had been roped off, but somebody had walked over its soft surface. There were many signs of a big boot heel having been dug deeply in at the parts known to cricketers as the goodlength spots. Mr Jacob Elliott, who has been president of the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association for the past 32 years, said that the happening was without precedent in Auckland.
