PLAY STOPPED BY RAIN ANCHOR AND lIAAVKEN DEFEATED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Friday The weather was dull and uninviting when play was resumed in the Dominion bowling championships this morning. Some rain foil but it was not sufficient to halt the early games. The whole day was devoted to the balance of section play in the pairs competition. 52 sections being engaged on 20 greens and all entrants taking part in four games. The St. Clair pair, skipped by Fisher, the former otago and New Zealand cricketer, had an even tussle with Bennett, and Taylor (Keanton, Tinmru), winning 23—17. Foster and Taplin (Auckland Transport) registered a win of 21 1 4 against O’Neill and Bain (Marlborough R.S.A.). The Carlton pair, McCullough and Donaldson, accounted lor Rutherford and Gladding (St. Kilda', 22—10. Lennie and Donaldson (Ponsonby) had a good win over Smaf-t and Gibson (Shirley), 2^ —B, The Linwood representatives, Archer and Redpath, went down B—l 9 to’the Roslyn pair, Armstrong and McKay. There was another upset with the defeat of Gardener and Anderson (Portobello) by Findlay and Ross (Carlton'. 22—10. Anderson has had many centre successes and skipped the South Island championship rink in 1939. Whittaker and Deare (Carlton) had little difficulty in disposing of Meehan and Lamb (\A 7 ellington) 24—-10.
