MINING IN BRITAIN

PLANS FOR AFTER-WAR LONDON, Jan. 12 British miners are to lay before the Minister of, Fuel and Power Major Lloyd George, their own plans for dealing with post-war problems. Mr Will president of the Miners’ Federation, said today that their document will include a survey of post-war requirement's and the relation of coal production and manpower. He said the federation realised that the future of Britain depended i on coal, as it will be practically the only export commodity the country would have. . After mentioning various points in the industry, such as hours of work, wages and other matters with which it was proposed to deal, Mr Lavvther said the theory of cheap coal always meant in the past cheap miners, and it was the rock on which the industry perished and led to such dire results in pre-war years, when there was the spectacle of prominent persons organising charity at Christmas for working miners. Never again must the chaos and anarchy that are operating the coal markets be allowed to recur.
