MIDDLE EAST COMMAND
NEW ZEALANDER APPOINTED LONDON, Jan. 13 The appointment of Air Vice-Mar-shal Sir Keith Park, Chief of the Malta Air Command, to be Chief ol the Middle East Air Command, it offiically announced. He replaces Air Chief-Marshal Sir William Sholtc Douglas, who was recently appointee chief of the R.A.F. Coastal Command Sir Keith Park has arrived ir Cairo to take up his new duties. Sir Keith Park, who is 51 years o: age, is the youngest son of Professoi James Park, wiio was for many \ ear: dean of the mining faculty at Otagc University. He was educated a - Otago Boys’ High School, and servec throughout the last war, first as e soldier and later as an airman. During the Battle of Britain h< commanded a fighter group which bore the brunt of the aerial fighting on the south and south-east coasts In July, 1942, he took over the Malts Air Command and wen a great reputation for hiS brilliant air defence of the island during its most difficul days.
