FIGURE AFTER 100 YEARS The entire revenue' of the whole colony of New Zealand for the' year 1843, one hundred years ago,' including the amount received from the sale of Crown lands, was £21,000, and the expenditure was £39,000. An attempt to borrow £15,000 in Sydney at 15 per cent failed. The gross indebtedness of the nation as at March 31, 1943, nine months ago, was £463,825,372, or £283 16s lOd per head of population, including Maoris. Total taxation by the Government for the year was £87,940,844, or £53 12s 4d per head of population, including Maoris.
