FINAL GALLOPS

KINDERGARTEN WORKS WELL (By Telegrapn.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday Conditions were excellent at Trentham this morning for the final gallops In preparation for the Wellington meeting. With (he exception of the two-year-olds, who sprinted on the course proper, all fast work was undertaken on the plough. The Cup candidates Royal Merit. Lord chancellor and Jeff were associated in a mile test. Royal Merit led throughout, beating Lord Chancellor by a short length with Jeff three lengths back, and running the distance in 1.42 2-5 after covering the first hair-mile in 50s. Rink and Den Quex took 51 3-5 s for the first half-mile and 1.4 4 4-5 for the full distance., being together all the way. Palfrey was clear of Piastre over a mile in 1.4 5, but they started well beyond that point. Kindergarten answered to a kick to draw clear of Lou Rosa at the end of seven furlongs in 1.29 i-5, arter running the first three in 37 3-5. The topweight looks well and so far as the trainer is aware will take his place on Saturday. Tara King Doubtful On the other hnd Tara King is a very doubtful starter and was restricted to trotting this morning. Macedoine was impressive in a gallop with good Scout, ’ hating the latter’s measure all the way. Macedoine ran the first three furlongs in 37 3-5 and the seven in 1.29 1-5. Full Hand took .1.31 4-5 over the same distance and Cracroft 1.32 2-5. Glenfalloch beat Greenfeast in *1.30 2-5. . . in an attractive effort over six furlongs FoxoJa and Merry May kept. together to complete 1.21, the first two in 295, Lord Broierort and Mate taking the same time. Sister Sal and Sal’s Pal were .partners over six in 1.7 2-5, the first two in 27 2 -ss. Beau Vaals—Sweet Biscuit The Telegraph Handicap candidates Beau Vaals and Sweet Biscuit slipped over five furlongs in 1.2. Both are in great order. Phaleron was a head in front of Foreign Coin at the end of five furlongs in 1.3 2-5. Master Dash and Well Armed ran an easy hair-mile in 55*. On the course proper, where, timing was not possible. Subdued ■■was held back to be with Theiolyn in a run over two lurlongs. Pensacola b°at Sunstream, and Mine Host was ci°ar of Aqua after getting the worse of the pick-up. Bridge Acre was .in front of . Barrage. Colais was a length in advance of. N.awab and Golden Barb. Hurmuz beat Kelmont and Ann Bank was in front of Theio Light.

NEW PLYMOUTH FINALS (Bv Telegraph.—Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday New Plymouth norses who--will race at Trentham on Saturday had final gallops yesterday morning. Best efforts were those of Whackie and Tideless, who took 1.2 for five furlongs on the plough. Jonathan Jo (Dulieu), Broiveine (Katene) and Sunblaze (Carter) were sent together, over 1 } miles on the plough. They ran a good half pace until they reached the four-rurlong peg, and sprinted home from there in 50s, with-Jonathan Jo doing the best. Master Ted (Kamo) and Pindar (Eley) galloped four furlongs-in 51s on the-course proper 2 7 feet out from the. fence. Master Ted did his work well and :was finishing on at the’end. H. Dulieu is taking seven horses to the Trentham meeting. His team comprises Whackie, Jonathan Jo, Sunblaze, Tideless, Broiveine. Broiedame and Entertainer. R. Barlow will have Master Ted and Aga Kay, s. Elliott Mansura and Te Ru Ru, and T. Fryer Breezelong. The Hawera tracks were fast, the main gallops being done on the .plough. . . Corday 'Holland) Is holding his condition splendidly, and again galloped well over six lurlongs. Accompanied by Magic ’ Chief. (Neill), over the first, three .furlongs, which he reached in 3 9s, Corday was ricked up there by Panic, and registered 1.17 i for tbe full distance. Black Plato and Sedgemere ran four furlongs in sis, with Black Plato shaping well. .Staging one of his best track efforts, Cetewayo (Neill) finished in front or Surveyor General (Potroz) at the end or six furlongs in 1.18 1-5. Cetewayo Is not without prospects in the Trentham Highweight Handicap. Rattledress (Holland) paced two rounds lazily, coining home the last three furlongs in 38 is. Battledress was not hustled and could have done better. Clarice is working attractively and should run prominently at Trentham. N. Holland's mounts at Trentham include Corday, Royal Merit, Hormuz, Lord Broiefort and Master Ted. A. Toki is to ride Etta Quex. and A. Winiata Etianthus. L. Clutterbuck is expected to ride Black Plato. Hawera horses who will leave for Trentham tomorrow include Rattledress, Corday. Sedgemerp. Black Plato. Etianthus, Etta Quex, Golden Acre and Clarice. Winners Last Tear The J.ower (7.2) won the 1943 Wellington Cup by a head from Royal Lancer •’9.3). 1-oxola (7.1 l*i was a length and ahalf away third, with Lou Rosa (9.0) fourth. The Telegraph Handicap was won by Palora (7.10), with Neenah (9.0; second. Beau Vaals (8.10; third, and Foutatau (7.13) fourth. GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI PALMERSTON N., Wednesday The semi-final gallops of Awapunl’s Wellington cup candidates attracted much interest yesterday morning. They took place on the plough, which was light and fasj. First to appear were Don Quex (G. A. Bowry) and Alethea (W. J. Stevens), and they were more impressive than t.he others. They started from near the ten-furlong post, and were travelling fast before thev reached the six. They were together all the way and finished solidly after running the last three furlongs in 3 9 2-ssec and the last mile in 1.4 4 2-5. It was a fine gallop, and both look surprisingly fresh after their holiday racing. Classform and Nighean travelled the same distance, coming home in 42sec, to cover the last mile in 1.47. Itr was good work, and Classform, who will be ridden by E-. V. Dye in the Cup, was a head to the good at the finish. M. Andrews, who rode Classform to victory In the New Zealand Cup. will ride Nighean at Trentham. Gladynev (S. Waddell) went with Happy Ending (V. Sellars) in a similar work-out. They ran the first five furlongs in 1.7 and the last three in 40 4-5. Thev apeared to have something in reserve at the finish. Happy Endina* will be ridden by Sellars in the Cup. Gladynev will not race the first day at Trentham. Good Scout worked once rpund and then sprinted five, furlongs with Kahuranaki, the last four taking him 5 1 sec. It is understood that A. Messervy will ride him at Trentham. j Sir Bradbury, who looks well, was restricted to a slow canter. Theolateral ,V. J. Broughton) sprinted six lurlongs in I.IS, the last five in 1.5.
