MORE FIRES OCCUR
NO RESPITE FOR BRIGADE Yesterday offered the Hamilton Fire Brigade no respite from the strenuous time it has had recently owing to numerous grass and gorse fires as a result of the dry weather. Between 1.11 yesterday afternoon and 1.56 this morning the brigade v/as summoned on six occasions, three of the outbreaks being alongside the railway line and attributable to sparks from locomotives. The first caff yesterday was to a grass fire in Moana Street, the blaze being extinguished with the use of the first-aid apparatus. At 2.4 the brigade attended a gorse fire in Chilcott Road, at 3.45 a grass fire in Marama Street, at 5.4 a gorse fire in Rifle Range Road, and at 5.27 a grass fire at Mary Street, Frankton. The caff early this morning was to Queen’s Avenue.- In each case the brigade extinguished the fire before any damage- resulted to property. Since last Thursday the brigade has been called out on 23 occasions, 19 of the outbreaks having occurred on the first three days of this week. The record number of caffs for a month stands at 32,
