STARVATION IN CALCUTTA
CALCUTTA, Sept. 27
Thousands, from rural areas are attempting to reach Calcutta in the hope of finding food and many are dying on the roadside. It is estimated that 100,000 are destitute and starving in Calcutta, where the hospitals are filled to capacity Fifty thousand tons of grain reached Calcutta within a month, but the death roll nevertheless is mounting. Newspapers normally friendly are bitterly attacking the New Delhi administration for lack of foresight in planning.
