MEMBER’S THANKS

WAIKATO TIMES CO-OPERATION

Appreciation of the co-operation given him by the Waikato Times during his eight years as Hamilton’s Parliamentary representative was voiced by Mr C. A. Barrell today. It was refreshing, he said, to have in a large and prosperous town like Hamilton a newspaper whose impartiality and unbiassed comment never sought to cloud the political issue. This was apparent at the recent election, said Mr Barrell, when all candidates received similar treatment and were able to place before electors a clear outline of the policies of their respective parties. This democratic principle was a big factor in a cleanly-contested election, he said, and no candidate for Parliamentary honours throughout the Hamilton, Waikato, Raglan and Hauraki electorates could say that he received less publicity than his opponent. During his years in the House his efforts on behalf of the town had the wholehearted co-operation of the Waikato Times. Mr Barrell expressed his thanks to all who had supported him during his tenure of office and whose wholehearted co-operation had made his work less onerous than it otherwise would have been.
