PRIME MINISTER’S CAREER
25 YEARS MEMBER OF HOUSE The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser has been Prime Minister of New Zealand since the death of the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage on April 1, 1940, and member for Wellington Central since 1918. Born in Scotland of artisan parents, he came to New Zealand in 1910, where he was at first employed as a
labourer and waterside worker. Later he became editor of the Maoriland Worker and secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party. He was elected deputy-leader of the party in 1933. When Labour swept the polls in 1935 Mr Fraser was gi”en the portfolios of Education and Health.
