TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES

nLut.i l. lnt.-iiivf. “The Major and the Minor” is a very amusing romantic comedy Ginger Rogers is seen as a girl who nußtlucrsirtes ■hs a youngster, and when she meets Vila Major (Ray Milland) exciting and very funny things happen. The two principals give fine performances and are supported by an excellent cast. The latest war news by air mail and interesting topical films are also screened. THEATRE ROYAL A varied programme will provide plenty of entertainment. ‘‘The Son of Davy Crockett’ shows Wild Bill Hickok blazing the trail in the wildest part of the West. “Frankstein Meets Wolf Man” is a sensational "horror” film, with two thrilling screen creations meeting in an exciting story. Ilona Massey, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney head the cast. On Tuesday "Hei Tiki,” the New Zealand story of Maori life, will commence a season. CIVIC THEATRE The gallant exploits of the Yugoslavs, an inspiring feature of the present war, are brought to the screen in "Chetniks.” The story of Genera'# Mikhailovich, the leader of the Chetniks, is told in the film. Philip Doran scores a big success in the role of the General, and Anna Sten, John Sheppard and Virginia Gilmore are also prominent.. There are some entertaining "shorts.” ROXY THEATRE "Pardon My Sarong” shows what happens when the popular comedians. Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, get stranded on a tropical island. The fun is fast and furious and keeps the audience in hilarious mood throughout. In effective contrast is "Footsteps in the Dark,” a romantic drama with plenty of action. Erol Flynn and Brenda Marshall have the romantic leads and are supported by an excellent cast. STATE THEATRE “Cowboy Serenade” is an exciting Western film which introduces several tuneful songs, including "Cowboy Serenade.” “Sweethearts or Strangers,” "Tahiti Honey” and "Nobody Knows.” Popular Gene Autry has the leading role. "Police Bullets,” a thrilling drama featuring warren Hymer and Joan Marsh, is also screened. MUSIC STUDENTS A meeting of the Hamilton Music Students’ Association will be held at Toorak Hall on Monday night. The programme will take the form of a piano recital by Miss Kathleen O’Leary, of Auckland, assisted by Mrs lan Stewart, the well-known singer. R.S.A. REVUE The R.S.A. revue. To be staged at the Theatre Royal next Wednesday night, should be a sparkling entertainment and will doubtless draw a very large audience. Returned servicemen and their families will be the guests of the Association. The revue will contain all those ingredients which make such an entertainment enjoyable—music, dancing, comedy and specialty items. The burlesque wrestling match should be especially popular. Seats should be reserved at once at the box plan office.
