GERMAN TANKS REPULSED ISLAND LANDING DEFEATED (Received Sept. 25. 1 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 24 A Yugoslav communique states that a strong German formation, supported by tanks, attempting to penetrate the patriots’ positions near Split, were thrown back. Three hundred Germans were killed or wounded. German ships attempted a landing on two islands west of the naval base of Dubrovnik. One ship laden with troops and war material was sunk and the others were driven off. The heaviest fighting still rages in the area of Gorizia and near Ljubljana. Patriot tanks repelled a German tank formation which was attempting to penetrate positions near Ljubljana. Yugoslav units destroyed a railway line near Sarajevo for a length of two and a-half miles.
