RAGLAN SEAT

MR GLASGOW’S CAMPAIGN

ISSUES BETWEEN TWO PARTIES

Mr R. J. Glasgow, National candidate for the Raglan seat, addressed a meeting at Rotongaro of record; attendance for the district, amount- 1 ing to over 70* Especially in all the : rural areas Mr Glasgow has received splendid receptions, making a large number of friends by his fair manner in dealing with the issues involved and also his manner in answering the many questions asked.

Direction was drawn to the main issues between the two parties, stated by Mr Glasgow as follows: 1. The belief by the Labour Party in the increasing measure of State control of industry and services S necessary in our modern system ofi community life, and the encour- j agemenl of the greatest number of people to look to the State for direction and to lean on the State for the material things of life. “The Na- i tional Party stands for the maximum freedom for the individual,” he said "This means the preservation of our; system of private enterprise, I the further development of co-oper-ative control and the acceptance by! all of a large measure of personal responsibility for our own standards. 2. The Labour Party was opposed 1 to the private ownership of property. The National Party believed in mak- j ing it possible for the greatest num- • ber of people to own something for| themselves, whether it be a farm, a home or a business. 3. Class consciousness and sectional friction was one of our great difficulties today. Many of the Labour Party Leaders had exploited this to the injury of New Zealand. “The National Party seeks to have established a Government that is truly representative of a complete cross-section of all the people, and a Government that is able to resist those sections who are endeavouring and are getting more than they are entitled to,” said Mr Glasgow.
