In four referendums New Zealand has had majorities ranging from 18,000 to 55,000 favouring Prohibition. Millions of people CAN be wrong, under the influence of misleading propaganda. Repeal was the result of big monied interests contributing to wholesale and wldesperad advertising. The Wickersham Commission, appointed by President Hoover, reported that prohibition had “increased production, increased efficiency, increased savings and decreased demands upon charitable and social agencies.” Under prohibition in U.S.A. drunkenness decreased 77 per cent, Alcoholic insanity decreased 66 per cent, drink-produced crime decreased 70 per cent. WORKERS NOTE: Why was Prohibition repealed ? A big group of millionaires paid for the repeal propaganda. According to sworn evidence before a ConMONEY gressional Committee, one of them, Irene du Pont, declared that if beer could be brought TALKED back and the worker taxed as he was in Britain, he could shift £2,000,000 of corporation taxation from his concerns on to the workers.
