STRANGE SHADOW WAR
NO REAL BATTLE FOUGHT (Omctal Wireless) (Received Sept. 8, noon) RUGBY, Sept. 7 The German forces in Calabria have accomplished more with Gne blown-up highway than with all their guns and mines, states a v>rrespondent. By blocking a road just north of Bagnara with T.N.T. the Nazis held up the advance of the British advance guards for nearly 48 hours in their otherwise almost non-step march up the peninsula. This shadow war, in which no real battle has yet been fought, has taken on an even stranger aspect as company after company of Italian troops, completely equipped, are marched with their officers to the British rear bases in Messina Straits.
