TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES STATE THEATRE Two well-contrasted films provide excellent entertainment. “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” featuring Gene Autry is screenled under tiie title or “Heart or tue Rio I Grande,” and has all the lire, colour, rojmance and adventure or the West. “The (Great Giidersleeve" is an amusing comedy I featuring Harold Peary and Jane Darweli. |The third episode or the thrilling serial, | “Overland with Kit Carson,” is also screened. CIVIC THEATRE “Ten Gentlemen from West Point” tells a thrilling and romantic -story ol' the days when tue future of the military academy hung precariously. On the shoulders of ten courageous cadets rested the existence of “the citadel of heroes,” and it is to their everlasting credit that they did not fail. George Montgomery, Maureen O’Hara and John Sutton have the principal roles. REGENT THEATRE “Hatter’s Castle” is one of the most dramatic stories the popular A. J. Cronin has written, and is interpreted impressively hy Robert Newton, Deborah Kerr, Emlyn Williams, James Mason and Enid 5 tampTaylor. An interesting March of Time deals with the Fighting French, who have been much in the news of late, and there are also the latest war news by air mail and one of the amusing “Speaking of Animals” series. THEATRE ROYAL “Halfway to Shanghai,” featuring Irene Hervey and Kent Taylor, and “Henry Aldrich, Editor,” with Jimmy Lydon and Rita Quigley, will be screened today; also a chapter or the thrilling serial, “Adventures or Smiling Jack.” “Hallway to shanghai” is a strong drama, set in a hotbed or world intrigue. There is plenty of action and an unusual romance. “Henry Aldrich, Editor,” is a rollicking comedy of the “local boy makes good” type, with Jimmy Lydon giving a line performance in the leading role. ROXY THEATRE “John Doe” is the term used by Americans to indicate the ordinary resident of the United states, and “Meet John Doe” is the stirring story of an American citizen who is involved in some exciting happenings. Gary Cooper gives a line performance in the title role, and Barbara Stanwyck plays opposite him with great success. “Tanks a Million” deals with the hilarious experiences of some “rookies,” end the audience is kept chuckling throughout.
