PARTY BALLOT

NATIONAL SELECTION MR FINDLAY SUCCESSFUL Mr F. Findlay, deputy-Mayor of Hamilton, has been selected as the National Party Candidate to contest the Hamilton seat at the general election. The selection of Mr Findlay was made by a postal ballot, which proved most successful, 80 per cent of the members of the party exercising their Vote. Only 36 informal votes were received by the returning officer. Mr Findlay’s majority over the other two candidates, Dr. F. D. Pinfold and Mr C. Lafferty, was sufficient to obviate using the preferential voting system. Mr Findlay, who has been prominent in public affairs in Hamilton for many years, has a notable record in regard to hospital affairs, having been chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board for three terms. For 15 years he has been official visitor to the Tokanui Mental Hospital and the Waikeria Borstal Institution. As a member of nhe Hamilton Borough Council Mr Findlay has served the town’s interests for 10 years. He is an elder of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, and has always taken a prominent part in matters relating to the spiritual as well as the material welfare of the community. For 10 years he was chairman of the Y.M.C.A. in Hamilton and at present he is a member of the board. In sport Mr Findlay won' the Decathlon championship for the whole of Scotland. He represented New Zealand in the athletic field in Great Britain in 1919, and following his return to the Dominion annexed three New Zealand championships.
