MAORI WINS D.C.M.
AWARDS TO SOLDIERS (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sunday The following immediate awards for gallantry to members of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force serving in the Middle East have been approved by His Majesty the King:— Distinguished Conduct Medal.— Lance-Sergeant H. Manahi, Maori Battalion, Ohinemutu, Rotorua. Bar to Military Medal.—Signalman G. J. Nilson, Nelson. Military Medal. —Sergeant W. R. Brown, Christchurch; Corporal A. G. Davies, Coromandel. The award of the D.C.M. to LanceSergeant Manahi follows on a period of continuous service since he went overseas with the Maori Battalion in 1940. He was wounded in May, 1941, but remained with his unit. Sergeant Manahi is 26 years of age. Signalman Nilsen, who has now received a bar to his Military Medal, secured his first decoration in November, 1941. He went overseas with the First Echelon.
