The deputy-Speaker of the House of Commons, Colonel Clifton Brown, has been elected Speaker following the death last week of Captain E. A. Fitzßoy, who had been Speaker since 1928. Colonel the Rt. Hon. Douglas Clifton Brown * has been deputySpeaker of the House of Commons since 1938. The new Speaker is the Conservative M.P. for Hexham Division of Northumberland. He is 63 years or age.
