Closing of Main Street As in previous years Victoria Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on Thursday night for the convenience of Christmas Eve shoppers. Radio Studio Fire Equipment stated to be irreplaceable during wartime was seriously damaged when a fire occurred in the recording studio of the Australian Broadcasting Commission in Sydney. A Philips Miller tape recorder imported from Holland, and the only one of its kind in Australia, was badly damaged. Not Fond of Work “Do you like mine work?” asked the chairman (Mr W. Meldrum), of a young man at a sitting of the Armed Forces Appeal Board at “As a matter of fact, I am not fond of work at all,” replied witness, who had been called to explain his irregular attendance. “There are a lot like that, but they are not game to say so,” observed Mr Meldrum. Mr Wilkinson was severely shaken. Concert at Waikeria A party pf entertainers from Hamilton visited Waikeria last night, and contributors to a well-varied programme included: Mrs J. Woodward, vocal solos; Miss A. Bluett, national and tap dancing; Mr N. Roberts, magic; Mr lan McMullin, novelty music; and Mrs H. J. McMullin, piano solos and accompaniments. The concert was \>llowed by community singing and a number of carols, the audience joining in enthusiastically.
