Mr J. Small, of Wanganui, is a visitor to Hamilton. Mr A. H. Trotter, of Stratford, is at the Commercial Hotel. Mr V. N. Abbot., of Invercargill, and Mr C. Schmelz, of Dunedin, are visiting Hamilton. The Rev. J. A. G. Day, formerly of Hamilton, has been admitted to the priesthood. He is on the staff of Splwyn College, Dunedin. Mr R. G. Macmorran, Undersecretary for Lands, is gazetted a director of the State Advances Corporation of New Zealand. Mr D. J. Cummings, Commissioner of Police, Wellington, was a visitor to Hamilton during the week-end, and was at the Commercial Hotel. Colonel J. H. Nankivell, of Wellington, who is a representative on the United States Army Department, was in Hamilton during the weekend, and stayed at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr A. H. Cockayne, who has been Director-General of Agriculture since May, 1936, is to retire on March 31, after three months’ leave of absence. Mr Cockayne entered the service of the Department of Agriculture in 1904, where he became a recognised authority on agriculture and botany, particularly grassland farming.
