N'eali Ilopea, ; farmer, of Oparure. and Otto Olsen, retired railwayman, were each fined £t for | being found on the premises. The police statpd that a spareh war- ! rant was executed on accused's premises I on Saturday, when several race meetings were in progress, a room at the back of the premises Mas fitted up with table, telephone and wireless, suitable for betting purposes. A book containing bets totalling £2 17 for three rare meetings Mas found in the room, in addition to £Bl in cash. The majority of bets were for £l, although they ranged from 2s 6d to £5. Cole had been fined £lO in 1 926, while in 1934 lie had been fined £2O for similar offences. Mr Blackman stated that the Bench was inclined to fine Cole the maximum or £IOO, but in view of his negative reply lo the question as to whether he intended to carry on in business he would be fined
