TRIBUTE TO TIMES
WEEKLY FEATURE MISSED At a gathering of the Hamilton Performers’ Club on Saturday night the president expressed regrfet at the disappearance from the Waikato Times, owing no doubt to war conditions, of the weekly feature, "Across the Footlights.” He stated that the feature was greatly missed, especially by those interested in amateur stage work, for it had played a big part in discovering and fostering talent in town and district. Hamilton was lucky in having a newspaper that did so much to develop the cultural life of the community. The Performers’ Club and other similar organisations owed much to the Waikato Times and were grateful for the help always given so generously. The hope was expressed that in the happy days after the war “Across the Footlights” may be revived and amateur organisations regain the standard that won them a high reputation throughout New Zealand.
