STATE WELCOME
ADMIRAL GHORMLEY ARRIVAL AT WELLINGTON (By Telegraph. —Dress Association) WELLINGTON, Monday Vice-Admiral Ghormley, the United Slates naval officer in charge of the South Pacific area, arrived in Wellington this morning and was welcomed at the railway station by the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser. Those who accompanied Admiral Ghormley to Wellington included the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, member of the War Cabinet.
A representative gathering of officials was on the platform with Mr Fraser, including Lieutenant-General P. J. Hurley, United States Minister to New Zealand, Sir Harry Batterbee, United Kingdom High Commissioner, the Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, the Hon. A. Hamilton, member of the War Cabinet, Mr Razmon E. Cox, Consul-General for the United States, and the New Zealand Chief of Staff, Commodore Sii 4 Atwell Lake, Lieutenant-General E. Puttick and Air Commodore Goddard.
