TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES CIVIC THEATRE “Jungle Cavalcade/’ Frank Buck’s thrillin? film or wild animal lire, will head the new programme today. The fascination which wild animals in their native habitat hold for picture audiences never lias been more clearly demonstrated than in Frank Buck’s “Jungle Cavalcade.’’ Adventure, strife and comedy run through this astonishing: wild animal picture. Anyone who witnesses the death struggles between the crocodile and black leopard, the python and the man-eating Bengal tiger; anyone who sees the shots or the elephant herd and the pathetic plight of the lost baby elepnant; anyone, who sees any part of the 111 m realises that here is stark, actual jungle drama. THEATRE ROYAL “The 'Lone Wolf Keeps a Date” brings another daring adventure of the favourite rogue to the screen, with Warren William again featured in the title role. Francis Robinson is his new heart interest as the light-hearted rascal solves a maze or mirth and murder revolving around the kidnapping of a retired millionaire. Others in the cast include Eric Blore, Thurston Hail, Bruce Bennett, Jed Prouty, Fred Kelsey and Don Beddoe. The efforts of a humane police officer, determined to segregate first offenders from the hardened criminals, is the theme of “Fugitive From A Prison Camp,” starring Jack Holt. REGENT THEATRE “Lady Be Good” tells the amusing and exciting story of a husband and wife song-writing team (played by Robert Young and Ann Sothern). When success goes to the husband’s head, his wife leaves him, taking up her residence with her best friend (dancing-star Eleanor Powell). Miss Powell is pursued by Broadway’s ace crooner (played by John Carroll) and between the two of them they effect a reconciliation between the couple. Song hits introduced include “Lady, Be Good,” “Fascinating Rhythm,” “The Last Time I Saw Paris.” “You’ll Never Know” and •‘Your Words and My Music.” STATE THEATRE “Up In The Air,” a rast-inovlng comedy mystery with a radio station background. An unpopular radio star is murdered. Just as the police are about to arrest the suspect, they discover he is murdered. Further complications and limitless laughs arise when Frankie Darro and his du-ky cohort, Martan Moreland, decide to take things in their own hands. How a whirlwind vacation romance blossoms into a true and lasting' love, is the appealing theme of “Unexpected Uncle,” featuring Anne Shirley, jame* Craig and Charles Coburn. The gay piot revolves around the adventures or a preliy Palm Beach shop girl whose romantic life commences when a young stranger kisses her in front of her employer, causing her to be promptly fired. ROXY THEATRE “I Wanted Wings” combines a story of adventure and romance with the exciting and fascinating chronicle of how America is training its young men for defence in the air. While the picture stars such brilliant players as Bay Milland, William Holden, Wayne Morris, and Brian Donlevy, there is one player in “I Wanted Wings” to whom considerable attentl-.n must be given—and she is Veronica Lake. Miss Lake, who has appeared in only three minor roles In the past, is said to dash towards stardom with all the spcel and surprise of a pursuit plane.
