FIGHTING IN BURMA

BITTER STRUGGLE FOR TOUNGOO CONTINUOUS ASSAULTS BY JAPANESE CHINESE TROOPS CROSS THE SIAM BORDER LONDON, March 26 Bitter fighting for Toungoo, in Burma, is the feature of the news from the Pacific war zone today. The Japanese have launched continuous assaults for 36 hours on the town but have failed to penetrate the Chinese outer positions. They have, however, by-passed the town and appear to be making some progress. A Chungking communique states today that Chinese troops have crossed the Siam border at two places. No details of the size or strength of the penetration have been given.
