NATIONAL SAVINGS

PAYABLE AS PATRIOTIC GIFT POPULAR GIRL CONTEST Pointing out that money subscribed in response to the Bonds for Bombers campaign or to national savings and money subscribed to patriotic funds was basically for the same purpose, the prosecution of the i war, the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, an- | nounced today that it would be pos- | sible to make the one contribution serve a dual purpose. National savings certificates and national savings bonds, including those bought in the special Bonds for Bombers week, would be accepted as contributions in the Popular Girl Contest, the proceeds from which will help to fill Hamilton’s quota of £29,750 in the All Purposes patriotic appeal. A National Savings certificate for £l, for instance, could be given to the fund of any of the candidates in the Popular Girl Contest and would represent 80 votes for her as well as £1 to the patriotic fund. The certificate or bond would stand to the credit of the town’s patriotic fund and the subscriber would know , that his £1 had served a double purpose. Mr Caro commended the idea and said he hoped the arrangement would appeal to the people as an attractive method of patriotic giving. CONCERT AT FRANKTON An enjoyable patriotic concert was given for the A.B.C. Popular Girl in the Frankton Town Hall on Thursi day night by a concert party organised by Mrs L. Evans, of Huntly, assisted by the well-known Hamilton entertainers, Miss Diane Rhodes and Mr Woods.
