EXTRADITION ORDER
CASE OF RICHARD HUMPHREYS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The Commissioner--of Police, Mr D. J. Cummings, stated that arrangeiments had been made to extradite Richard Humphreys from Hobart. A Press Association cablegram from Hobart on Tuesday stated that unless definite advice was received from the New Zealand police within a week, it was likely that Humphreys, against whom an extradition order was granted on March 16, would be released from Hobart gaol. This was indicated by the city police magistrate, Colonel Clark, when Humphreys reappeared on remand on a charge of escaping from Waikeria Borstal Institute. The police authorities said the New Zealand authorities had dilly-dallied for weeks and even now there was no news of an escort. Humphreys escaped from the institute on September 20, 1941, and- sailed single-handed across the Tasman in an auxiliary launch.
