PRESUMED LOST
TWO AMERICAN DESTROYERS (Official Wireless) (Received March 26, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, March 25 A Washington Navy Department communique states: The United States destroyers Pillsfcury and Edsall are reported to be missing since early in March and must be presumed lost. The Pillsbury is believed to have been lost in the vicinity of Bali Strait subsequent to a naval engagement in the Java Sea. The last report from Edsall placed her in waters south of Java. These destroyers were units of the original Asiatic Fleet which had been used since the beginning of the war in an attempt to frustrate a Japanese invasion of islands in the South-west Pacific.
