TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES STATE THEATRE Western dramas are always popular, and " Texas Rangers Ride Again," featuring John Howard, Ellen Drew, Akim Tamiroff I and May Robson, is one of the best of its class. The film tells in exciting fashion of the Rangers’ attempt to rid the purple sage of a gang of eutthroat cattle rustlers. To do it, the Gmen of the range have to match the gangster's modern crime methods, and so they bring into play such aids as patrol cars and short-wave radio sets, in addition tc their six-shooters and speed ponies. "Opened By Mistake’’ is a thrilling murder mystery giving Charlie Ruggles an opportunity to portray again his most memorable characterisation, that of the drunken reporter. REGENT THEATRE “Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde ” is a thrilling film. Spencer Tracy, relying more on histrionic ability than makeup, gives a striking performance. Ingrid Bergman, with her fear-crazed song, "See Me Dance the Polka,” gives an amazing characterisation, and Lana Turner, lan Hunter and others give good support. “Incendiary Bombs" is a Government • film that is as useful as it is interesting. “ Lady, Be Good ” “ L-ady, Be Good,” a merry musical comedy that was a great success on the stage, will be screened on Friday. The cast includes such clever people as Ann Sothem, Robert Young, Eleanor Powell, Red Skelton and the famous dancers, the Berry Brothers. CIVIC THEATRE Such melodious numbers as “ Sunny,” “ D’you Love Me? ” “ Two Little Bluebirds," and “ Who? " are a feature of “ Sunny," the entertaining musical comedy. "Sunny” ran for many years on the stage, and the wider scope of the screen makes it even more successful as a film, it tells an interesting story, has a delightful romance, and is embellished with those popular songs which everyone wants to whistle. There is also much merry humour, and altogether it is a bright production. Anna Neagle is very charming in the title role, and her singing and dancing are a delight. Ray Bolger, the clever dancer, plays opposite her with success, his dance duos with Miss Neagle being very striking. THEATRE ROYAL I “ Henry Goes Arizona ” is the amusing ' and exciting story of a vaudeville comeI dian who inherited a cattle range in the | toughest district in Arizona, and uses thrills to obtain laughs out of the • timidity, trials and tribulations of the I central character. The love story of a ! man and a child, his niece, is woven into I the medley of laughs, thrills and dramatic highlights. Frank Morgan is seen as I Henry, and clever little Virginia Weidler as his niece. Guy Kibbee is cast as a bibulous Western Judge, and Slim Sumj merville as the comical sheik. I "Night Train To Munich” is a thrilling ' tale of adventure, with Rex Harrison and Margaret Lockwood heading the cast. It holds the tense interest of the audience throughout. ROXY THEATRE Popular James Cagney and Ann Sheridan have the romantic leads in " City for Conquest,” which is as turbulent, exciting and dramatic as New York City itself. Cagney plays the part of an East Side newsboy who discovers that one must tje hard and tough to make a dent in the town. Ann Sheridan appears as a girl who finds that the price of success can be very high. Together they slan to accomplish something—to beat their way through the cruel oppression of the city’s seven and a-half million struggling souls —and their story is very exciting. “Blonde Inspiration" is a very amusing comedy featuring John Shelton, Virginia Grey and Albert Dekker, I I
