BATTLE FOR AUSTRALIA
NEED OF ASSISTANCE iUnited Press Assn.—Elec. Tei. CoDyrlgiit; WASHINGTON, March 23 Mr R. G. Casey, Australian Minister to Washington, in a broadcast, said the fate of civilisation for a long time to come might hinge on the outcome of the battle for Australia, which was likely to break out in full fury in the next few weeks. “Australia cannot withstand the full might of Japan,” he said, “unless her forces are formidably supported by our powerful friends from overseas, the United States and Britain. Our cry is for offensive action and for men, weapons and equipment, for the aeroplanes and ships that can be added to our Australian strength to enable Japan to be thrown back from our shores and eventually defeated.
“That is what we all have to do and this is what we are going to do; and, with God’s help, our cause will prevail.”
