Evening Classes Evening classes for the 1942 session will begin at the Hamilton Technical College next Monday. With so many young people leaving school earlier than usual to fill the gaps caused by the war effort, it is not surprising to find that enrolments are already to hand in good numbers and a record total is expected. The usual classes will be carried on, including welding and machine-shop-practice classes.

Vice-Regal Visit An enthusiastic welcome by a large gathering was given to the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall when they arrived at Stratford yesterday on their first official visit. Long Trip Avoided A woman volunteer for the Air Force from the Timaru district who had just returned from a trip to Christchurch to interview the authorities was surprised to receive notice to report at Hamilton for a medical examination. Not relishing the prospect of so long a trip and believing that some mistake must have been made she got into touch with the Timaru medical board. It was finally discovered that her home address of Pareora, about eight miles south of Timaru, had been confused with the town of Paeroa in the Hauraki Plains.

Example In Vegetable Growing Great praise is given to the vegetable garden of Mrs A. Z. Harris, 37A Ulster Street, by the judge in the section for the best vegetable garden of under half an acre in the annual Gardens Competition in Hamilton, the full results of which are expected to be announced shortly. The judge said that considering her age Mrs Harris had set a remarkable example

in the growing of vegetables as a war effort, and that if everyone could achieve a similar result there would be no dear vegetables. He added that Airs Harris would welcome inspection of her garden by interested people during the morning or afternoon.
