WESTFIELD MARKETS

FAT STOCK SALES BEEF PRICES MAINTAINED BIG DROP IN CALVES Heavy entries were yarded in all sections at Westfield yesterday. Current rates lor ox beef were maintained The best quotation for steers was £ls 12s fid. realised by an animal bred by Mr W. Flemming. of Whakatane. and another from Mr C. Allen’s farm at Tirau. Prime wethers realised from £ 1 2s fid to £1 7s 3d. against £ 1 3s and £ 1 7s 9d at the previous sale Ewes and lambs were disposed of at rates that were substantially the same as recent quotations. Owing to the fact that so many goodquality animals were offered, inferior calves were not in demand and small vealers were as much as 10s a head cheaper than last week For this time of the year, however, values for veal are remarkably firm. Baconers. porkers and stores changed hands at last week's rates. For baconers the average price was GLid per lb., and porkers averaged from 7' 4 d to 71 2 d per lb.
