ATTACKS ON PHILIPPINES 110 PEOPLE KILLED {United Press Assn. — Elec. Tel. copyrlyn:, NEW YORK, Dec. 9 Japanese raids on various parts of the Philippines continue. American military camps, bases and ports are being attacked. Late last night
Manila was being attacked again, 1 and a great fire was raging on the
outskirts of the city. Enemy troops are reported to have landed 60 miles > south of Manila. Japanese troops are reported to have landed at Lubang Island, near the entrance to Manila Bay, aided by Japanese fishermen and fifth columnists. This is part of the general Japanese offensive, including today’s air raids. In the latest raids 110 people have been killed. Combined British, United States and Netherlands naval units are operating off the Philippines, states a message from Manila. Manila had its first daylight airraid alert this morning. Reports that Japanese parachutists have landed are denied. Manila and military bases and ports throughout the Philippines were bombed by the Japanese yesterday. The Paris radio says that the Japanese High Command claims that 40 American aeroplanes were shot down in combat, in addition to 50 destroyed -on the airfield, during attacks on the Philippines. Five thousand Japanese have been rounded up in the Philippines.
