TERRITORIAL FORCE

EARLIER MOBILISATION ANNOUNCEMENT AWAITED There is a probability of earlier mobilisation of territorial forces, in view of the emergency in the Pacific, according to advice from Wellington, but the No. 4 (Hamilton) military district headquarters has no information on the subject. It is pointed out that a number of territorial units are due to go into camp on January 10, and that if mobilisation is speeded up these units may be called to camp this month.

Senior officers in each military district were in conference yesterday and today and are awaiting instructions from Wellington.

It is known that the War Cabinet has been considering the situation, and an announcement is expected tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime it is proposed to allow usual leave for men of the Expeditionary Force under training.
