HAURAKI ELECTORATE
CANDIDATE NOMINATED NATIONAL PARTY CHAIRMAN Mr Hugh Dent, of Ngatea, chairman of the National Party organisation in the Hauraki electorate, and a vice-president of the New Zealand National Party, has consented to his name being submitted to the electorate organisation for approval as the National Party candidate for the Hauraki electorate. The vacancy was caused by the death in action of Lieutenant-Colonel J. M. Allen. Mr Dent, who has been prominently connected with the progress of the district for many years, was an aspirant for the seat in 1938, and his name went to the ballot with that of Lieutenant-Colonel Allen. A returned soldier, who saw active service in France and the Middle East, Mr Dent has only recently returned from a course of training. If more than one nomination is received, the selection of a candidate will be decided by ballot under the constitution and rules of the party. The Prime Minister said that both the Hauraki Labour Representation Committee and the national executive of the party had decided that the seat would not be contested by a Labour candidate.
