BORING FOR OIL
CESSATION AT MORERE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) GISBORNE. Tuesday Cessation of efforts to increase the depth of Mcrere No. 1 well has been announced by the New Zealand Petroleum Company, Limited. The casing is being withdrawn from the lower levels, and for the immediate future the company will concentrate upon testing sands about half-way down the bore. The fortnightly bulleiin of the company states:—Morere No. 1 well: Owing to insuperable drilling difficulties encountered, it has been decided to discontinue drilling at Morere No. 1 well. Withdrawal of 6 5-Bin. casing is now in progress. After this operation is completed, it is planned, before finally abandoning the well, to perforate the 9 5-Bin. casing in order to test certain sands which were encountered during drilling operations at depths from 8221 ft to 3466 ft. Indications have been given recently of difficulties at the lower levels reached at Moreic. The last bulletin gave the depth as 6683 ft.
