RAILWAYMEN’S WAGES
ATTACK ON GOVERNMENT (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WHANGAREI, Monday Support for the attitude adopted by railway employees at other centres was given at a meeting at Whangarei. Representatives were present of the Enginedrivers, Firemen and Cleaners’ Association, the ! Railway Officers’ Institute, the Rail- ; way Tradesmen’s Association,' and I the Amalgamated Society of Railway ! A resolution was passed to the ! effect that the four organisations, i thoroughly representative of all j grades and callings, demanded immediate action by the Government to increase wages by at least 6d an hour. Many railwaymen were living in circumstances which reflected graveiy on the Government's failure to adjust their economic position to meet the extremely high cost of living.
