OBITUARY

MR JOHN FOX EVANS The death has occurred in Hamilton of Mr John Fox Evans, at the age of 52. Mr Evans, who was a wellknown resident of Te Akau, was born at Mt. Roskill, Auckland, receiving his education at St. John’s College and at a private school in Dunedin. After farming work in the Wairarapa, he purchased a property near the Wanganui River. Mr Evans saw active service in France a iring the Great War with the Rifle Brigade and afterward farmed a block of land in Te Akau, where he lived untii his death. Keenly interested in sport, he was formerly secretary to the Te Akau Sports Club and president of the Golf Club. He is survived by his wife and one son. MR JAMES TWOHILL PROMINENT SPORTSMAN PASSES The death occurred at Thames this morning of Mr James Twohill, a well-known figure in the Thames Valley for many years. Mr Twohill, who was the proprietor of the Brian Boru Hotel at Thames, raced gallopers and trotters extensively, one of his best-known representatives being the fine sprinter Soultline, which won among other important events the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington in 1909. A prominent member of both the Thames Racing Club and the Thames Trotting Club, Mr Twohill was the foundation president of the latter body, holding the office up to the time of his death. MR W. R. KINGSTON-SMITH WELLINGTON, Friday The death occurred suddenly yesterday of Mr W. R. Kingston-Smith, aged 39, for several years editor of tne New Zealand Financial ’limes and also circulation manager of the Farmers’ Weekly. Latterly he had been a member of the staff of the National Broadcasting Service. He was a frequent lecturer for the Workers’ Educational Association on international affairs.
