OBITUARY

MRS E. M. MATHIESON LINK WITH EARLY DAYS The death occurred in Hamilton yesterday of Mrs Ellen Margaret Mathieson, at the age of 71 years. A daughter of Mr and Mrs William Revell, who came to Hamilton with the Old Fourth Waikatos, Mrs Mathieson was born at the Redoubt, on what is now known as McGarrigle’s Hill, Bridge Street, Hamilton East. Her father, who was a member of the Constabulary, and her grandfather, Mr Felix McGuire, fought in the Maori Wars. Mr McGuire also ran the first coaches from Hamilton to Cambridge and Rotorua. Apart from a short period spent in Auckland, Mrs Mathieson lived all her life in Hamilton. In the early days when nurses and other medical assistance were scarce, Mrs Mathieson was actively associated with the late Dr. J. A. Going. In 1888 she was married in Auckland to Mr David Mathieson, who died three years ago. She is survived by three sons, Messrs D. Mathieson, A. Mathieson, and W. Mathieson, all of Hamilton.

MRS ELIZABETH TEDDY The death has occurred at her home, “Innesfallen,” Ohaupo, of Mrs Elizabeth Teddy, aged 63, widow of Mr John Teddy. Born at Ohaupo, the late Mrs Teddy was a daughter of Mr and Mrs James McGrath. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs A. Nicholson (Morrinsville), Mrs, A. Fleming (Otorohanga), Mrs A. Neill (Henderson), Mrs H. Marshall (Cambridge), Mrs B. Rothwell (Hamilton), and four sons, Messrs H. S. Teddy, H. J. Teddy, S. J. Teddy and P. Teddy, all of Ohaupo. MR G. B. LEWIS The death has occurred of Mr George Bruce Lewis, of Hamilton, aged 57. Mr Lewis was born at Swansea, Wales, and came to New Zealand 37 years ago. He settled in Wellington and married Miss Edna M. Martin there. Mr Lewis was in business in Hamilton as an importer. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Miss Marjorie Lewis and Mrs Kennard, Wellington.
