TO BE KILLED OFF

DR. KILDARE’S GIRL FRIEND MAY FINISH THE SERIES Many a star has been killed by the characters she played. They were not important enough. Now a star is going to kill ofl a well-known screen character, because she has become too important to go on playing it. Laraine Day’s delightful little nurse in the Doctor Kildare series is about to die: M-G-M has said so and the script says so, says a writer in a film magazine. Laraine is now considered too good an actress and too important a star to go on playing this sweet, rather frustrated, little nurse. What Doctor Jimmy Kildare (Lew Ayres) will do after she dies, one doesn’t know. She has meant so much to him. What cld Doctor Gillespie (Lionel Barrymore) will do nobody knows, either, for he had his whole heart set on getting them married, and time and time again they seemed about to elope. The script writer remembered just in time that marriage, in Hollywood parlance, usually means the end. It seems likely that Laraine Day’s tremendous rise may end the whole Kildare series. On the other hand M-G-M may decide to put up the matter to the fans. Perhaps we might start the ball rolling. We have to face the fact that Miss Day cannot marry Dr. Kildare: she’s done for! May he fall in love with another girl? Or what do you think can happen, just to keep the story running? If Kildare does find another girl, will the ghost of “Mary” stalk her happiness?
